  • Trailer update – generator is fine. Painting the trailer is mentioned but it would be harder to get the decals back up then is necessary. David will make a trailer wish list for Jason.

  • Freedom Ride Updates: It was an amazing event!  Achilles cyclists had a blast.  Raised a ton of money for wounded warrior.  Raised enough to purchase 3 hand cycles for the Achilles Foundation.

Nice kit updates

  • Switching to the new trickle chargers. Takes a longer time to charge the batteries with these chargers, but are smaller. We are rebuilding and replenishing the kits.

  • Trailer update – Trailer is in good shape.
  • First Aid training scheduled for the August meeting. Bring $10 for supplies and cards.

  • Nice kit updates- David and Justin are going to build a prototype to show everyone. No updates as of right now. There are lots of failure points, which is the reason for the redesign. Also, it is currently very heavy and will try to lighten it up.

New Business

  • .150 is running great. No complaints so far
  • Trailer update – Trailer is in good shape. Roof developed a leak and swelled the drop down table in the center because it is made of particle board.
  • First Aid training scheduled for the August meeting. Bring $10 for supplies and cards.
  • Thank you for all your help with the Lotus House ride. It was a great success, and they were able to raise $45,000 from that ride, which is a great feat considering it was the first year for this ride, and it was supposed to be a small ride.
  • Miami-Dade is starting a RACES team. The meetings will take place quarterly before the Dade Radio Club meeting at the Miami Dade EOC all information will be at http://www.miamidaderaces.org website and w4nvu.com will also have info.

Announcements: Don – Reportable weather is slacking as of late, even when operators are on the air and in bad weather. Please remember to report bad weather via weather net. There also is a weekly net WX4SFL net Thursday at 7pm on 444.025 PL 107.2 in Margate.

David – Interstate call boxes that are no longer being used, it is being considered for a repeater linking system.

147.505, Naples repeater on DMR and Miguel can hear it loud and clear.

Hamfest – Met with Miccosukkee people and contacted the Youth Fair people and are waiting to see who gives the better rate.

Revisit – Gables RACES handbooks need to be updated. Make it electronic?

  • Skywarn pushed to April or March.
  • Joint training day with Dade Radio Club where we both build a field station and try to communicate with each other from across town.
  • Lotus House Ride – Possibly need radio operators.  It’s a small ride at that point that starts at Ponce Circle Park with routes North.  Lotus House is a woman’s shelter in Overtown.
  • Everglades Field Day will be at the South Dade Agricultural Center and will be conjoined with DRC.  Will set up a station and invite people to come by to man the stations.  Jason is suggesting that RACES join as well.
  • Shirts – Will be about $20/shirt.  Will take orders next meeting once Branden gets all the information.
  • Hamboree needs volunteers.  Please contact Jason if you wish to volunteer.  D-star, Arduino Icom will all have a booth.  Will also be a part of a Mini-Makers Faire.
  • Tour de Cure – 4 positions still need to be filled.  Tentative assignments already done.  Trailer is going to start line at Haulover.
  • Skywarn training February 22nd with the county
  • First Aid Training in March, $10 fees for materials.

New Business

  • Chargers are on order. Jeff suggests a tech committee for setting the standard for the NICE kits.
  • JOB – everything went great, committee was very happy. Radios still work after they got rained on a little. Grandstands were sold out. Thank to everyone who came out to help.
  • Trailer update – everything is in good shape, everything work. If you set up the generator for the trailer, please remember to open the vent on the gas cap otherwise the tank will implode or generator will stall.
  • D-star repeater is up. Eddie is working on digital stuff, frank working on everything else.
  • We decided last meeting to not bring the trailer. Miguel requested we bring the trailer, to stay locked by the front entrances just for show. We decided to would be ok. No staff will be needed as it will remain locked.

Upcoming Events

  • First Aid/CPR Course Feb. 8th meeting – Please bring $10 for the cards.
  • Hamboree/Mini Makers Fair January 31st – Feb. 1st – Setting up Wednesday, Thursday is vendor check-in. Show opens at noon until Saturday. Contact Jason Swift to volunteer to help. Icom showing up, tower, mfj, ham world, Yaesu has contacted, but they haven’t confirmed. Will be combined with a Makers Fair. Testing on Saturday morning at 9am.
  • Tour de Cure – January 26, emails will go out soon. Looking for communicators for the route. Starting at Haulover, through downtown, and down to South Dade. Desperately looking for motorcycle SAGS. If anyone knows anyone, please let David know.
  • Miami Marathon February 2nd
  • March 1st & 2nd – MS 150 or 200 (it’s up for discussion). Email went out today. Fun 2 days, free camping in Key Largo. Hopefully the weather will be better this year. Format changed – routes will be 50/75/100 day 1, day 2 the century is negligible.
  • Susan Komen is in flux – Dates TBD. Venue may be changing.
  • DRC Field Day – looking to do the same as last year, with Everglades Amateur Radio at the agricultural center.
  • Skywarn TBD – February 8 at there will be a session at Miami Dade EOC. We can put one on the schedule as well. Looking at March/April.

Nice Kit Updates

Jason has received purchasing permission, so we can purchase things we need, like the chargers.  Things that will be purchased: power poles, wires, chargers.

New Business

  • Trailer Update – Used for Paddle Challenge and everything worked very well.  Trailer is in good shape.  There are a few things on the wish list, but it’s perfectly functioning.  Registration was finally acquired.
  • Shirts – Found performance shirts, with dry weave or the regular polos, all with embroidered logos $30-$34 range, depending on materials, size and with or without pocket.  They are self pay shirts, therefore as many as you like can be purchased.
  • Junior Orange Bowl Parade – starts at 6:30pm.  Be there at least 2 hours beforehand.  Will meet at the trailer, on the side of the Christian Science church.
  • Trailer at Hamboree -Tentatively will not be taking it because we have a staffing issue and the trailer needs to have someone inside of it at all times.
